Art for Partition is a free event to benefit the 1947 Partition Archive. It’s going to be a fantastic art and literary day!
Here’s the 411:
WHATArt for Partition. Benefit luncheon with guest speakers followed by a free public event and art auction, lecture, survivors’ panel discussion and screening of Earth 1947.
WHEN: April 6, 2013;  11:30am-6:00pm
WHERE: UC Berkeley Skydeck, Penthouse Floor, 2150 Ave, Downtown Berkeley
WHY: To raise money to preserve stories from survivors of the Partition of South Asia.
A luncheon and art auction will help support the collection of stories from those who witnessed the Holocaust of South Asia. The event will include a survivors’ panel sharing stories and recounting experiences of partition, traditional South Asian music, art auction and a discussion with Dr. Bapsi Sidhwa, acclaimed author of the novel Cracking India.
Marc Kaufman in Philadelphia Inquirer said about Dr. Sidhwa’s novel:
“Much has been written about the holocaust that followed the Partition of India in 1947. But seldom has that story been told as touchingly, as convincingly, or as horrifyingly as it has been by novelist Bapsi Sidhwa, seeing it through the eyes of young Lenny … there is great humanity in this novel.”
